Temperature is an extremely important parameter to achieve a good working life of a Battery. More so for a LEAD ACID Battery. It is a known fact that the battery life reduces to half for every 8oC rise above 27oC. Hence air-conditioners are used to keep the battery from deteriorating. But when a airconditioner cools the environment, the battery in turn is cooled through the outer plastic container. This container itself is a thermally insulating material. It’s thermal conductivity is much lesser than the lead terminal of the battery. Due to this, the cooling process becomes very inefficient. DTC cools the lead terminal directly which is a better thermal conductor than plastic. This helps in cooling the battery plates using much lesser energy. It also avoids unnecessary cooling of the environment. Comparative consumption during our research is approximately 2800 units against 13140 units per battery set per year for 2V cells - 48V/600AH battery set.
